La Emi

La Emi began her flamenco journey at the age of four and has emerged as a teacher and performer acclaimed for her artistry and craft.
La Emi started studying flamenco with the Maria Benitez Institute for Spanish Arts (ISA) when she was four years old and began working with the Institute’s youth company, Flamenco’s Next Generation at the age of 10. Just two years later – when she was only 12 – she started teaching within the Northern New Mexico public school system. She began teaching for Moving Arts Española in 2005 and ISA in 2006.
As a performer, La Emi has danced on stages from New Mexico to Spain, appearing in the production of “El Pintor” at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque (2010), Entreflamenco, the company of Antonio Granjero and Estefania Ramirez, at the Lodge at Santa Fe (2011, 2012 and 2015), Juan Siddi Flamenco Santa Fe (2013, 2014 and 2016) and Compañia Chuscales y Mina Fajardo (2010-2014).
In 2011, La Emi was nominated and selected as one of the 12 young and emerging artists in Pasatiempo, and she received the 2012 Santa Fe Mayor’s Melissa Engestrom Youth Artist Award for Excellence in the Arts.
La Emi studied intensively in Spain with Carmela Greco and La Popi as well as José Galván, Juana Amaya, Yolanda Heredia, Iván Vargas Heredia, Torombo, Rocio Alcaide Ruiz and many others. She has performed under the direction of Carmela Greco, José Galván, and Torombo and at major venues and events including the Carmela Greco Seminario de Flamenco y Danza Española and Café de Chinitas in Madrid; Cuevas Los Tarantos in the Sacramonte of Granada and the Teatro Alameda Festival Flamenco in Sevilla.
La Emi currently teaches and directs at the EmiArteFlamenco Academy, as well as performing in many venues throughout the country.
In the summer of 2018, she launched her professional career with Heritage Hotels and Resorts producing performances at the Benitez Cabaret at The Lodge at Santa Fe.
EmiArteFlamenco
EmiArteFlamenco is produced and directed by Vicente Griego and La Emi.
Launched in 2014, this dynamic company is comprised of an ensemble of local and international artists, dancers and musicians. It embraces artistic excellence and is renowned for embodying the power, passion and virtuosity of the art of flamenco. The company’s mission is to promote the history and culture of traditional flamenco through cutting-edge performances and classes, captivating people of all ages. The performances and classes also serve to bring the community together in their love for flamenco and supporting the arts in Santa Fe.
In January 2017, EmiArteFlamenco launched its Academy and Flamenco Youth de Santa Fe company.
The officers of the board are Jaima Chevalier, president; Ross Easterling, vice-president and secretary; and Theresa Martinez, treasurer.
Dancers

Olivia Pintor was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and began studying flamenco at the age of three with the Linda Vega Dance Studio. At the age of eleven, she began dancing with their company Flamenco Santa Barbara. At the age of twelve, she started teaching at the Linda Vega Dance Studio. In 2010, she began studying with Maria “Chacha” Bermudez, since then she has studied with Daniela Zermeño Sanchez and Manuel Gutierrez. In 2019, she performed in the production of “Disfrut-Art” under the direction of Manuel Gutierrez and began teaching at EmiArteFlamenco Academy. For the past six years she has been attending the Festival Flamenco Albuquerque and has studied with top artists Concha Jareño, Alfonso Losa, Manuel Liñan, Vanesa Coloma, Saray de los Reyes, and La Lupi.

Maria Mercedes Perez, was born in Cuba. From very young age she had a great affinity for flamenco and started dancing at 3 years old. At 12 years old, she had her first trip to Colombia interpreting the work of Carmen. Mrs. Perez has been a member of the best flamenco companies in Cuba including: Spanish Ballet of Cuba, ECOS, Flamenco Havana, among others. She has also worked with great artists such as Truco, and La Farruca, and has taken courses with Rocío Molina, Eva Yerbabuena and Maria Juncal. As a flamenco dancer, Maria Mercedes, has toured Japan, China, Australia, Mexico, England, Canada, and United Stated. She now resides in Miami as a respected instructor and artist, appearing in many flamenco functions as a guest artist. “Everyday I give my body and soul to this wonderful art that is flamenco. That’s a great joy!”, says Maria Mercedes.

Musicians
Vicente Griego “El Cartucho”

From Dixon/Embudo, NM, Vicente has devoted his life to the study of Cante Flamenco, the art of flamenco singing. In 1999, Vicente began touring the US, Canada, and Latin America with the Jose Greco II Flamenco Dance Company, where he was mentored by Caño Roto singer, Alfonso Gabarri, “El Veneno” of Madrid, Spain. Griego has spent many years as a pupil of renowned guitarist, Jose Valle “Chuscales” and singer, José Fernández of Granada, Spain. Griego maintains a busy performance schedule while singing for Yjastros, the American Flamenco Repertoire Company out of Albuquerque, and EmiArteFlamenco of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Griego is the lead vocalist in the Rumba Flamenca band, ReVoZo and tours nationally and internationally year-round. Vicente Griego is an adjunct faculty member in the department of Theatre and Dance at the University of New Mexico.

Joshua was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. He has worked in lighting, audio, and theater production for 25 years. He attended the Northern Colorado School of Music, University of New Mexico and the Technical Vocational Institute (TVI) where he received a a degree in Media Arts. In the field of production, he spent years touring with Jose Greco’s flamenco group, the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), professional music festivals and concert production. Joshua was the lighting director at Isleta Casino for several years. Joshua is also a talented guitarist specializing in flamenco and classical guitar. Since 1994 Josh has been teaching, performing, recording and studying music. Everything from Punk, to Classic Rock, to Blues, Flamenco, Jazz, Latin Rock, Latin Jazz, Funk, and Hip-Hop.
